Polyvore Obsession

Okay, a few weeks ago, I heard somebody mention polyvore.com and I thought I would check it out today. Hours later, I had made TONS of boards and realized I was obsessed.

Basically, it is a site that allows you to make fashion inspiration boards. You can browse their collection (which has pretty much everything you can imagine) or you can add your images found from the internet.

Now that we finally have warm weather, I find myself yearning for new clothes for the new warm weather but I have a big problem. I am poor. Really poor. Also, it might just be me, but I am not digging the trends this year.

So what's a girl to do? I went to Joann's today and loaded up on ribbons, trims, lace, buttons and other things in that realm, and I have been spending this weekend revamping my dresses, flats and tanks. I have been making fabric rosettes and flowers, adding lace trims and buttons to hem lines, ribbons and scarves to waistlines...you name it! I spent today finding items remarkably similar  (or exactly the same in some cases) to my own clothing pieces and then paired them all together into complete outfits.

I also added small accessories that I can afford to buy that totally dressed something up, and I used took clothing similar to pieces I own and used them as inspiration for what to add to my plain clothes.  They are simple, small changes, but trust me, you would be surprised how much a subtle lace trim on the hem of a dress can make, or a few flower rosettes sewn on to a plain cardigan. It is giving my clothes a whole new life and costing me hardly anything!

This helped me see my wardrobe and separate pieces in a whole new light. I put things together in ways I have never done before. I went on the internet and took inspiration from my favorite characters, actors, and movies and I couldn't believe how inspirational the simplest things could be in making an outfit.

So, my point here is, if you like fashion, clothing, trends or if you like putting together outfits check it out! It is so much fun and can really be helpful!

This is one of my favorite outfits I put together today, both on the boards and in real life. I took an old pink dress I had, shortened the bottom, added a black lace underskirt/slip, and then used the leftover hem material to make rosettes which I hand-sewed to the top to create a look just like this dress. Just as cute, and cost me nothing since I used stash items. The rest of the pieces I already own. One little doll inspired an outfit I absolutely love. Best of all, it is based on pieces I already have that I would have never thought about in this context without this website! Awesome!

I plan to share my favorite revamps and outfits here regularly for those of you that like fashion! I am documenting the before, (process if there is anything complicated) and after shots of my clothes that I revamp, and I will share my inspiration board for the outfit. (I will do a pic of this outfit when I wear it!)
